BODYWORK & FRAME
The FREERIDE E-XC’s unique frame features a very lightweight composite design, which combines high-quality chrome-molybdenum steel with forged aluminum profiles that are bolted together. That means that the motor functions as a supporting element additionally assisted by massive bash plate made of aluminum. This guarantees optimal stiffness/stability and the highest safety even for high jumps.
The KTM FREERIDE E-XC features a new KTM PowerPack with higher capacity for MY 2018. In total, the 260 volt battery hosts 360 of the latest lithium ion cells fitted in the proven robust die-cast aluminum casing. They provide 50% more capacity of 3.9 kWh, enough for up to one and a half hours of pure riding fun (depending on style and terrain). The new model now allows for the recuperation of deceleration energy during coasting and braking phases back into the battery, further extending the range.
ECU & DISPLAY
The high-powered Engine Control Unit (ECU) is the Freeride E engine’s ‘brain’. A water-cooled ECU ensures instant yet usable power delivery in all riding conditions. All the Freeride E-XC’s vital statistics at a simple glance. Speed, battery charge status, and power mode are just some of the many functions that the easy-to-read display provides.
The reworked brushless motor features a very compact and slim design in accordance with our READY TO RACE philosophy. Due to its dust and waterproof layout, the motor is almost wear- and maintenance-free. Newly developed thermo pads between the stators and motor casing guarantee better thermal stability. In conjunction with the water cooling of the casing, the motor works without any derating or failures, even at extreme temperatures.
The subframe is fabricated from high-strength plastic bolted to the frame and is distinguished by its high stiffness and contributes significantly to the lightweight concept of the vehicle. The integrated grab handle is recessed and well protected from mud and dirt from the rear wheel.
In order to guarantee constant temperatures, the heat from the motor and control unit is dissipated by two laterally mounted radiators. An electrical water pump provides the circulation of the fluid.
